JVA Secretary General Inaugurates Al-Hesa Pond Rehabilitation and Expansion Project Funded by the U.S. Embassy

The Secretary General of the Jordan Valley Authority (JVA), Eng. Hisham Al Hesa, inaugurated the Al-Hasa Pond Rehabilitation and Expansion Project in the Southern Jordan Valley, funded by the U.S. Embassy in Amman.

As one of the most important strategic water assets in the Southern Jordan Valley, Al-Hasa Pond plays a critical role in supporting multiple water uses, including agricultural irrigation, industrial activities, and the provision of drinking water to local communities. The rehabilitation and expansion project strengthens the pond’s capacity to serve these essential functions while improving the management of limited water resources in one of Jordan’s most water-scarce regions.

With a total of JOD 1.4 million in funding from the United States government, the project will enhance the efficiency of water collection, storage, and distribution systems, reducing water losses and improving service reliability. Once completed, the upgraded facility will help manage approximately 24 million cubic meters of water annually, support nearly 50 percent of the irrigated agricultural lands in the Southern Jordan Valley, provide water for industrial uses, and contribute to drinking water supplies for surrounding communities.

The project reflects JVA’s commitment to strengthening Jordan’s water security and improving the sustainability and efficiency of water resource management.
