Al-Anbat - Senate President Faisal Fayez on Thursday met with Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miro Cerar, and an accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Fayez underlined the depth of bilateral relations between Jordan and Slovenia, which are based on mutual respect and cooperation, pointing to Jordan's keenness, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, to develop them to serve the interests of the two countries and their peoples.

He pointed out that the two countries see eye-to-eye on many issues, namely the fight against terrorism and extremism, and the need to find political solutions to all Middle Eastern issues, stressing that the Kingdom considers Slovenia a partner in the efforts to bring about regional peace and end conflicts.
Fayez said terrorism threatens everyone, adding that combating it requires a strategy and an organized international effort. He pointed to the efforts Jordan exerts, under King Abdullah's leadership, to fight terrorism and extremism to achieve peace and stability in the region and the world.

He said ending the Arab-Israeli conflict constitutes a real starting point to solving regional issues, which calls for a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, in accordance with the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions, to enable the Palestinian people to establish an independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

On the economic front, Fayez affirmed King Abdullah's keenness to develop economic relations between the two friendly countries in all fields and sectors, calling for finding more economic partnerships, creating new investment opportunities, and benefiting from existing ones in both countries.

Cerar described the Jordanian-Slovenian relations as "strong," calling for strengthening bilateral cooperation on various levels and fields.

He lauded the Kingdom's humanitarian role in hosting Syrian refugees, despite limited resources and difficult economic challenges, hailing King Abdullah's regional and international role in achieving peace and stability in the region.

The Slovenian diplomat pledged to discuss this burden that Jordan shoulders with member states in the union to boost the level of support it receives.

He called for raising the level of economic cooperation and enhancing trade exchange, especially in the field of tourism, both religious and therapeutic.

The region suffers from political conflicts and crises and Jordan is the country most affected by them, Fayez added, affirming that Jordan was able to maintain its security and stability thanks to King Abdullah's wise leadership and the strength of its various security apparatuses.

He stated that despite the difficult economic conditions in the region in general and Jordan in particular, the Kingdom continues carrying out its humanitarian role in serving over 1.3 million Syrian refugees.

The cost of hosting Syrian refugees amounted to around $10 billion by the end of 2017, the Senate President added, noting that this increased economic challenges, especially after the international community's failure to live up to its pledges to Jordan.

He called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards Syrian refugees and support Jordan to enable it to continue its humanitarian role, voicing hope that Slovenia, a member of the European Union, will play a role to increase aid to Jordan.
