RIYADH - Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned the attack targeting the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, denouncing the act in the strongest terms, according to a statement released by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserted that the repeated, cowardly, and unjustified nature of the attack blatantly contravenes all international norms and laws. This includes the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, which grant immunity to diplomatic buildings and their staff, even in situations of armed conflict.
The Kingdom emphasized that this blatant Iranian behavior, occurring despite Saudi authorities' explicit declaration that they would not permit the use of their airspace and territory to target Iran, will push the region toward further escalation.
Saudi Arabia affirmed its full right to take all necessary measures and actions to protect its security, the safety of its territories, citizens, residents, and vital interests, including the option to respond to the aggression.
