"Social insurance " hold A session on occupational safety and health in restaurants and hotels

The Social Security Corporation organized yesterday a brainstorming session on the reality of occupational safety and health in the restaurant and hotel sector,In order to come up with proposals and recommendations that would reach consensus and understandings with all parties concerned to enhance the protection of the labor force and encourage enterprises to pay attention to this area.
The director of the Media Center Mousa Subaihi said during the opening session of the meeting, a representative of the Director General of the Foundation, the goal of the meeting is to provide all the means necessary to secure protection and provide a comfortable and safe working environment for workers,Contribute to the establishment of a culture of occupational safety and health in the community, and raise awareness of occupational safety issues among local communities, enterprises and individuals.
He added that the institution continues to pay great attention to the occupational safety and health situation in the business sector, and in various sectors, with greater focus and attention in sectors where accidents are frequent and high rates of injury, including manufacturing, construction,restaurants and hotels.
The commitment of enterprises to apply occupational safety standards and standards was of paramount importance in improving compliance with local occupational safety and health legislation, reducing occupational risks and accidents, increasing staff confidence in the procedures of the enterprise to protect them, improving emergency preparedness and improving production and profitability.
He revealed that the number of work injuries in the restaurant and hotel sector according to the analytical report of work injuries for 2016 amounted to 1214 work injuries by 11 percent of the total work injuries registered in the guarantee, amounting to 11075 work injuries to all sectors.
He pointed out that the number of restaurants with different classification in the Kingdom is estimated at about 20 thousand restaurants, which registered in the guarantee about 50 percent only,And that the number of workers in the same sector ranges from 110 to 130 thousand workers and workers, who are covered by the guarantee about 43 thousand workers by up to about 40 percent only,Adding that the number of hotels classified (according to statistical bulletin of the Ministry of Tourism 2018) amounted to 580 hotels, and that the total number of workers in the hotel sector was 19659 workers; Jordanians, including 17567 by 89 percent.
The Director of Occupational Casualties and Occupational Safety Department, Firas Shatnawi, presented an explanation of the reality of work injuries and occupational safety in the restaurants and hotels sector.Indicating that the root causes of the occurrence of accidents is the weak commitment of the departments of enterprises to occupational safety and health,Inefficiency of training in this aspect in enterprises, weak supervisory role of concerned authorities in occupational safety and health, and the absence of a clear policy or a strategy of occupational safety and health.
The brainstorming session concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which is the consensus on the necessity of complying with the law to include all workers in the restaurant and hotel sector with social security and their real wages; and intensifying visits to the restaurants and hotels sector to verify their compliance with the provisions of the guarantee law And its coverage to all its employees under the guarantee.
