Top Islamic Jihad Commander Killed in Beirut Airstrike

A commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad's military wing was killed in an Israeli strike in southern Beirut, the group said on Monday.

Adham Adnan al-Othman, a leader within the Al-Quds Brigades, was killed in what the group called a “treacherous Zionist aggression” in the southern suburbs of Beirut, according to a statement from Islamic Jihad.

Al-Othman, 41, was described by the group as the commander of the Al-Quds Brigades in Lebanon.

The killing comes amid heightened tensions and escalating military activity in the region.

Sources describe the current situation as very serious, especially after Hezbollah fired rockets from the north of the Litani River, despite the Lebanese army's prior confirmation of control over most of the area south of the river.

The Israeli military action follows a barrage of rockets fired by Hezbollah toward Haifa, which the Lebanese group said was in retaliation for the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

In response to the escalating situation, Lebanon has initiated intensive political and diplomatic efforts to contain the conflict. However, many military experts anticipate that this new round of hostilities will be the most intense yet, potentially continuing until the complete dismantling of Hezbollah's military wing.
