A new installment in the God of War franchise is under development at PlayStation's Santa Monica Studio, featuring a fresh cast of characters and a storyline distinct from previous games, according to a report.

Santa Monica Studio has been the primary developer of the God of War series since its debut and is looking to expand the universe of the game.

Details remain scarce regarding the plot and protagonists of the upcoming game, as Santa Monica Studio is maintaining secrecy. Cory Barlog, who spearheaded the series' revamp, has reportedly transitioned to an undisclosed project.

Christopher Judge, the voice actor for the game's protagonist in recent installments, previously hinted at a potential reveal of the new title during the summer.

A LinkedIn post from a writer at the studio indicated work on expanding the series' world, including crafting details for the setting, narratives, and new characters.

This aligns with a prior report suggesting a connected universe for the series, encompassing various characters and games, akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Recently, the studio released "God of War: Sons of Sparta," a departure from the main series, set within the God of War world but focusing on the protagonist's story before the events that began. This title features a different gameplay style and visual approach, and has garnered mixed reactions from players.
