Jordanian football club Al-Hussein remains in Doha, Qatar, with no confirmed return date, due to the ongoing disruption of Qatari airspace amid heightened regional tensions.
The team's presence in Qatar was initially for a training camp preceding their now-postponed match against Qatari side Al-Ahli in the AFC Champions League's second-tier quarter-finals.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has postponed the match indefinitely following regional developments.
Qatar's Civil Aviation Authority had temporarily suspended air traffic on Feb. 28, citing regional developments. Subsequent clarifications indicated that the resumption of flights is contingent on a safety assessment of the situation.
Habib Za'balawi, the Director of Media and Corporate Communication at Al-Hussein, stated that coordination with official bodies is ongoing, spearheaded by club president Amer Abu Obeid, to facilitate the team's return to Amman. However, these efforts are dependent on the stabilization of the regional situation and the reopening of Qatari airspace.
In the meantime, the team's activities are limited to physical training indoors, adhering to Qatari authorities' instructions to suspend sports activities in open stadiums, according to Za'balawi.
Za'balawi assured fans that all players and staff are in good health and that all their needs are being met.
While in Qatar, the Jordan Football Association announced the schedule for the first three matchdays of the league's third phase. Al-Hussein is scheduled to play against Al-Baqaa on March 7. The club also has two postponed matches against Al-Faisaly and Al-Sarhan.
Al-Hussein, the sole Jordanian team competing in both domestic and continental competitions, currently leads the league with 37 points, following a 5-2 victory over Al-Baqaa in their last match.
