Jordan Completes Key Road Project Linking Karak and Dead Sea

A new road connecting the Karak governorate with the Dead Sea region is now complete, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.

The project, which spans 18 kilometers, cost 10.5 million Jordanian dinars (approximately $14.8 million USD). Authorities say it is part of a broader government strategy to upgrade infrastructure and improve transportation links across the country.

Officials anticipate that the road will stimulate economic and tourism activity in the area by providing a direct route between Karak and the Dead Sea highway near Ghor Haditha.

Construction was divided into three phases, each covering six kilometers. The first and third phases were finished in the past two years. The final touches are being applied to the second section, including landscaping, ditch lining, and the installation of road safety features like paint and reflectors.

The road features two lanes with shoulders, totaling 11.10 meters in width. Construction involved excavation, backfilling, asphalt paving, and the installation of drainage pipes and retaining walls. The project aims to improve road safety, facilitate travel, and boost economic activity in the surrounding areas.
