Israel Launches Offensive Against Hezbollah in Lebanon

Israel has initiated a large-scale military operation in Lebanon, responding to a rocket barrage fired by Hezbollah towards Haifa. Security sources describe the situation as dire, with expectations of intense conflict aimed at dismantling Hezbollah's military capabilities.

The Israeli military campaign commenced early Monday, triggering widespread explosions and concentrated shelling across southern Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the offensive, stating that Hezbollah would pay a heavy price for its actions.

According to the IDF, the strikes targeted numerous Hezbollah sites throughout Lebanon, including Beirut, focusing on command centers, launch sites, and senior commanders. Evacuation warnings were issued for over 50 villages in Lebanon believed to contain Hezbollah infrastructure.

The initial Hezbollah attack involved a barrage of rockets and drones targeting the Mishmar HaCarmel air defense site near Haifa. Hezbollah claimed the operation was retaliation for the assassination of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei and a defense of Lebanon against Israeli aggression.

Amid the escalating conflict, political sources suggest that Israel is determined to eliminate Hezbollah's military wing, regardless of diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation. Efforts to contain the conflict by pressuring Hezbollah to halt operations and persuading Israel to cease its military campaign have so far been unsuccessful.

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health reported a preliminary toll of 31 fatalities and 149 injuries resulting from the Israeli strikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut and southern Lebanon.

Reports indicate that the Israeli military operations in Beirut included targeted assassinations of key Hezbollah figures. While the IDF confirmed the elimination of Hussein Muqalled, the head of Hezbollah's intelligence in Beirut, reports of the alleged assassination of Hezbollah's Deputy Secretary-General Mohammed Raad and military commander Khalil Harb remain unconfirmed.

Some military experts believe Israel aims to dismantle Hezbollah's military capabilities. Retired Brigadier General George Nader suggests that Israel has no alternative but to eliminate Hezbollah, despite Lebanese efforts to mitigate the conflict.

Throughout Monday, warnings were issued to residents in southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and Beirut, particularly those residing near branches of Al-Qard Al-Hasan, Hezbollah's financial arm. Airstrikes continued throughout the day, targeting various regions.
