Al-Atrash: $200 million export opportunities in the veterinary and pesticide sector

The representative of the therapeutic industries and medical supplies sector in the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Dr. Fadi Al-Atrash, estimated the export opportunities existing in the veterinary pharmaceutical and pesticide industries sector for many foreign markets at about $200 million.

Al-Atrash told the Jordanian News Agency (PETRA) that the products of the Kingdom's veterinary and pesticide industries possess a high operational strength, enjoy a great reputation locally and externally, but still need more facilities and support to take advantage of existing opportunities in export markets and growing global demand.

Exploiting these opportunities would provide new possibilities for the Jordanian industry, which had begun in the Kingdom for decades, thereby increasing the sector's exports, attracting new investment, expanding existing production lines and providing more jobs and employment opportunities for Jordanian labour.

The veterinary pharmaceutical industry and Jordanian pesticides are characterized by the variety of goods and items produced by local factories in many governorates, in addition to their high quality and conformity with international standards, and their interconnection with many other industries, in particular general medicines, preventive medical medicines, vaccines, hormones and supplements.

There are 31 enterprises operating in the veterinary pharmaceutical industry, accounting for 20.5% of the total enterprises operating in the therapeutic industry and medical supplies, and employing 1,052 workers.

The total capital of companies operating with veterinary medicines and pesticides amounted to 38 million dinars, accounting for 23% of the total capital of companies operating in the therapeutic industry and medical supplies.

Al-Atrash also noted that the value added of the veterinary pharmaceutical and pesticide industries sector amounts more than 99 million dinars, the volume of production of 195 million dinars, its exports over the past year reached 87 million dinars, while its sales in the domestic market amounted to about 108 million dinars.

He stressed the need to facilitate registration procedures for the domestic product of veterinary medicines and pesticides, and to strengthen cooperation in the field of treatments, veterinary pesticides and insecticides with a number of countries that constitute a major outlet for Jordan's highly competitive products.
