Minister of Planning and International
Cooperation, Zeina Toukan met with United Nations Deputy Secretary-General
Amina Mohammed during her official visit to Jordan, where discussions focused
on the strong partnership between Jordan and UN.
Toukan highlighted progress being made
under the Sustainable Development Goals and alignment to Jordan’s modernization
tracks; economic, administrative and political. Discussions focused on avenues
for cooperation in areas related to human capital, food security, climate
change, data and humanitarian response. Discussions also focused on next steps
related to the implementation of the outcomes of the recent Fourth Financing
for Development Conference held in Seville end of June especially in boosting
international financing and investments in sustainable development.
UN Deputy Secretary General Mohammed commended
Jordan’s humanitarian efforts, including ongoing services to Syrian refugees, as
well as progress on SDGs and efforts to embed SDGs into national policies and
programs, and reiterated UN’s support for the country’s modernization priorities.
