CAIRO - Egyptian space technology company Aqmar is preparing to launch satellite communication services and solutions tailored to the local market, with a focus on supporting vital sectors in areas beyond the reach of traditional networks.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, Aqmar will initially lease and operate space capacity from satellites owned by international companies. This approach allows for rapid market entry, the provision of space solutions, reduced capital risks, and flexible expansion based on demand growth.
Aqmar's primary focus during this initial phase will be on regions with limited or no terrestrial coverage, particularly desert and border areas, industrial project sites, and infrastructure spanning long distances. The company is also targeting Internet of Things (IoT) services, enabling the connection of sensors and equipment in remote locations to central data management and control systems through the periodic transmission and reception of small data packets.
Among the key applications identified are the monitoring of gas and oil pipelines, electricity pylons, and the tracking of assets and heavy equipment. The services will also support smart metering systems, remote weather stations, remote operation of valves and water pumps, and large-scale remote projects.
Ahmed Nassar, the company's CEO, told the German Press Agency that oil and gas companies are among the primary beneficiaries of the new service, particularly in monitoring and securing pipelines extending across remote areas. This will reduce the risk of leaks or sabotage and speed up responses to malfunctions.
Electricity distribution companies managing high-voltage towers will also benefit, as Aqmar's solutions enable the precise location of faults and immediate transmission of coordinates, reducing outage times and operating costs.
