WhatsApp is developing a scheduled messaging feature, putting it in line with other instant messaging platforms, according to reports.
The feature is currently under development and not yet available for beta testing, according to a report by American tech site 9to5Mac.
The feature has so far only appeared in group chats, and it is not yet known whether it will be available for individual chats, the report added.
Scheduled messaging is a common feature on other instant messaging platforms, including iMessage.
The update comes as Meta has been adding a number of features to WhatsApp in recent months, including the ability for new group members to view past chat history, according to a report by PC Magazine.
The view past chat history feature allows users to see messages that were sent in the group before they were added, without having to forward the messages individually.
Group admins can choose how many messages new members can see, from 25 to 100.
WhatsApp has been working to develop and diversify its features in order to compete in a variety of sectors.
In recent months, the company has introduced a number of features that make it easier to use the platform for work groups as an alternative to dedicated work chat platforms such as Slack and Teams.
These features include enhanced security options, such as the ability to log in with a password, secure passkey, or email address, as well as the option to choose a username.
