Jordan's national basketball team has commenced training in Beirut, Lebanon, setting the stage for crucial encounters against Iran and Iraq in the second window of the Asian Qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar.
The Jordanian squad is scheduled to face Iran this Friday, followed by a match against Iraq next Monday.
The team's roster includes seasoned players such as Ahmad Al-Dwairi, Ahmad Hamarsheh, Mohammad Shaher, Hashem Abbas, Fadi Mustafa (aka "Freddy"), Mahmoud Al-Hazaymeh, Yazan Al-Taweel, Abdullah Olajuwon, Yousef Abu Waznah, Malek Kanaan, Yousef Al-Duwaik, Akef Al-Shiyab, Fadi Qarmash, and Jalen Harris.
Prior to arriving in Beirut, the national team completed an intensive training camp in Dubai, which concluded on Tuesday.
Jordan initiated its Asian Qualifiers campaign with two decisive victories against Syria in the first window, with scores of 74-59 and 100-48 respectively. This performance has propelled Jordan to the top of Group C with a total of 4 points, edging out Iran based on basket difference. Iraq and Syria currently hold the third and fourth positions, each with 2 points.
