Jordan's Basketball Team Intensifies Training in Dubai for World Cup Qualifiers

DUBAI - Jordan's national basketball team is currently undergoing intensive training in Dubai as they prepare for crucial matches against Iran and Iraq in the Asian qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA World Cup.

The team, known as the "Falcons," is engaged in a comprehensive training program that includes two daily sessions, as the technical staff aims to maximize the team's readiness and cohesion. As part of their preparation, Jordan will face Saudi Arabia and the UAE in friendly matches to refine their tactics and address any technical issues before the upcoming continental challenge.

Head coach, Canadian national Roy Rana, emphasized the importance of the Dubai camp in unifying the team and enhancing their focus ahead of the official competition. "Our presence in Dubai provides an ideal environment to sharpen our focus," Rana stated, highlighting the blend of experienced players and young talents within the squad and their commitment to developing national talent.

The training camp has seen the addition of center Ahmed Al-Dwairi to the roster, joining players such as Ahmed Hamarsheh, Mohammad Shaher, Hashem Abbas, Fadi Mustafa (Freddy), Mahmoud Al-Hazaymeh, Yazan Al-Taweel, Abdullah Olajuwon, Youssef Abu Wazna, Malek Kanaan, Youssef Al-Duwaik, Akef Al-Shiyab, and Fadi Qirmish. Naturalized player Galen Harris is expected to join the team later.

Rana added, "Our training camps in Amman and now in Dubai continue to drive the development of all players. At this stage, our focus is on the process, preparation methodology, and establishing the team's culture, rather than solely on the results of friendly matches."

The Jordanian team is scheduled to travel to Beirut on February 24, ahead of their match against Iran on February 27, followed by a game against Iraq on March 2, both to be held at the Nouhad Nawfal Sports Complex in Beirut.

The Jordan Basketball Federation has expressed its full confidence in the coaching staff and players, encouraging them to continue delivering performances that reflect the status and ambitions of Jordanian basketball on the continental stage. The Federation also reiterated its call for Jordanian fans to support the "Falcons" in their journey to achieve their goals in the Asian qualifiers.
