Al-Anbat - Specialized doctors estimated the percentage of Jordanian citizens who suffer from lack or inadequate vitamin D by more than 70%, while the global rate is estimated at 50%.
Dr. Rafad Ayesh, a specialist in pathology, kidney transplantation and blood pressure, called in a lecture held by the Jordanian-Swedish Pharmaceutical Company (JOSOY) on Monday for people to be exposed to the sun for 10-15 minutes between 10 am and 3 pm so that their bodies can produce vitamin "D” they need, which its main source is sunlight.Vitamin D, absorbed from the sun's rays, is more effective than pharmaceutical vitamins. Other sources include fish, whale liver oil, some cheeses, orange juice and others, he said. Dr. Ayesh said that the factors that affect the absorption of vitamin "D" negatively is the use of sunscreen, dark skin, an increase of age where the secretion of the substance that helps in the production of vitamin "D" decreases."Vitamin D plays a key role in increasing the body's absorption of calcium and phosphorus," he said.He pointed out that there are studies linking the lack of it to pressure diseases, the arteries and some cancers.Dr. Ayesh called on elderly, nursing mothers and pregnant women to take vitamin D pills preventively 600 to 1000 calories per day, but in the event of a shortage, the patient needs to take the treatment of a pill of 50,000 calories per week for 8 weeks or more.Pharmacist Musa Saleh gave a presentation on the treatment of teraD, which contains vitamin "D", and its importance to the body as it is related to many vital processes within the body.
