Trump Signals Escalation as Iran Conflict Widens, Tehran Halts Negotiations

Israeli military sources reported conducting approximately 2,000 airstrikes in the initial 36 hours of the conflict, compared to 1,500 by the United States, focusing on southern Iran and facilities associated with ballistic missiles and drone production.

U.S. military officials have offered insights into the conflict. U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth affirmed that no ground troops had been deployed to Iran but emphasized readiness to "go as far as we need to go." Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Keane cautioned that achieving objectives would take time and involve further casualties, confirming the death of a fourth U.S. soldier.

U.S. President Donald Trump has escalated his rhetoric, hinting at a "big wave" of attacks yet to come and the potential deployment of ground forces "if necessary." Trump outlined four primary objectives of the military action: dismantling Iran's ballistic missile capabilities, neutralizing its naval power, preventing the acquisition of nuclear weapons, and halting the funding and arming of affiliated factions. He suggested the conflict could extend for four to five weeks.

Amidst the ongoing military operations, Iranian National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani declared an end to negotiations with the U.S., accusing President Trump of dragging the region into a war that serves Israeli interests.
