Washington is poised to announce its response to an attack near its embassy in Riyadh and the reported deaths of American soldiers, former U.S. President Donald Trump said early Tuesday.

Speaking to News Nation, Trump indicated he does not believe deploying ground troops to Iran will be necessary given current developments.

The Saudi Ministry of Defense reported early Tuesday that the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh was targeted in an attack involving drones, according to preliminary assessments. The ministry stated that the attack resulted in a limited fire and minor material damage to the building.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing flames rise from the vicinity of the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh early Tuesday, according to three sources. One source described the fire as contained.

Two sources confirmed seeing black smoke rising above the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh, where foreign diplomatic missions are located.

Fox News reported that the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh was unoccupied at the time of the drone attack, which it attributed to Iran, and that no injuries were reported.
