U.S. Embassies in Amman, Bahrain, and Qatar Issue Shelter-in-Place Directives Amid Regional Tensions

The embassy in Amman has implemented a “shelter-in-place” protocol for all its personnel. It advised U.S. citizens to seek refuge in secure locations, whether at home or in other safe buildings, ensuring they have adequate supplies of food, water, medicine, and other essential items.

The embassy also recommended avoiding public gatherings and demonstrations, maintaining a low profile, and staying aware of their surroundings. Citizens are encouraged to monitor local media for updates and be prepared to adjust their plans as the situation evolves.

The U.S. Embassy in Bahrain issued a security alert advising all American citizens in the country to remain in safe locations within their homes or secure buildings until further notice. This measure is part of the embassy's implementation of its “shelter-in-place” policy for all employees.

The U.S. Embassy in Qatar has also implemented shelter-in-place procedures for its staff. The directives come amid reports of escalating tensions in the region.

The embassy in Amman emphasized the importance of keeping mobile phones charged and maintaining contact with family and friends to share personal updates. In case of immediate danger, the embassy advised contacting the Public Security Directorate immediately by dialing 911.

The embassy also highlighted the option of registering with the State Department's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates related to the situation in Jordan. Consular services for U.S. citizens will continue to be provided according to established procedures.

These security measures follow reports of escalating tensions, including claims of an Israeli attack against Iran. Iranian news agency Fars reported three explosions in central Tehran.
