DOHA - Qatari Emiri Air Force intercepted two warplanes, along with multiple missiles and drones, according to a statement released Monday by the Ministry of Defence. The interceptions occurred amidst heightened tensions in the region.

The Ministry's statement specifically cited the successful downing of two SU-24 aircraft originating from Iran. Furthermore, Qatari forces reported successfully engaging seven ballistic missiles and five unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that were targeting various locations within the country.

The statement made no mention of the fate of the pilots of the downed SU-24 aircraft.

Qatar had earlier announced the suspension of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production following reported attacks on energy infrastructure in other Gulf Arab states.

This marks the first instance of a Gulf nation claiming to have downed Iranian warplanes, amidst escalating regional conflict.
