AMMAN - Jordan's National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) has activated its emergency plan due to the current regional escalation and the resulting decline in natural gas supplies, the company announced Sunday. The Kingdom's reserves of fuel for electricity generation are sufficient for at least 30 days, even if supplies from the Leviathan field remain disrupted, NEPCO confirmed.

The emergency plan includes a temporary suspension of gas supplies to factories connected to the main grid. This precautionary measure aligns with the priorities for gas distribution outlined in the plan. The decision is temporary and will be reassessed as regional conditions improve and gas flows stabilize, according to a company statement.

NEPCO is prepared to face any developments or emergencies in the short and long term, said General Manager Soufian Bataineh. He noted that sustainable alternatives have been activated since the temporary suspension of gas supplies.

The Kingdom's electrical system is operating normally, and all technical and operational measures taken aim to ensure the continued supply of electricity to Jordan without interruption and to maintain the stability of the electrical system under all circumstances, the company added.
