Lebanon PM Condemns Rocket Fire from South as 'Irresponsible'

Lebanon's Prime Minister has denounced the firing of projectiles from southern Lebanon into Israel as an irresponsible and suspicious act that jeopardizes the country's security.

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, in a statement released early Monday, stressed the need to control the situation to maintain stability within Lebanon.

He warned that such actions endanger Lebanon's safety and provide Israel with pretexts to continue its aggression.

Salam asserted that the government would not allow the country to be drawn into new adventures and would take necessary measures to apprehend the perpetrators and protect Lebanese citizens.

The Israeli military announced that it launched a wave of strikes against Hezbollah targets throughout Lebanon on Monday, following a rocket attack claimed by the Iran-backed group.

According to the Israeli army, the strikes were in response to Hezbollah's firing of projectiles towards Israel, with forces targeting Hezbollah infrastructure across Lebanon.

Hezbollah, the Lebanese group supported by Iran, claimed responsibility for launching rockets and drones into Israel overnight Sunday-Monday, citing retaliation for the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Hezbollah stated that the attacks, involving a barrage of rockets and drones targeting the Israeli army's missile defense site in Mishmar HaCarmel, south of Haifa, were in defense of Lebanon and its people, and in response to repeated Israeli aggressions.
