Several U.S. warplanes have crashed in Kuwait, according to a statement from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense. All crew members are safe and have been transported to a hospital for medical evaluation, officials said.
The incidents occurred amid heightened tensions in the region, with Iran launching strikes on Gulf nations in response to an alleged U.S.-Israeli attack. Kuwaiti forces also intercepted an unspecified number of drones targeting the country, according to reports.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense confirmed the aircraft mishaps, stating that search and rescue operations were immediately initiated. The crews were evacuated and are receiving medical care. Their conditions are stable, the ministry said.
The ministry added that it is coordinating directly with U.S. forces to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crashes and implement joint technical measures. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incidents.
Earlier, the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait issued a warning urging citizens to avoid the embassy due to reports of smoke plumes rising from the compound. The embassy cited an ongoing threat of missile and drone attacks over Kuwait and advised people to seek shelter in lower levels away from windows. Embassy personnel are sheltering in place, the warning stated.
Meanwhile, Kuwait's General Department of Civil Defense reported that Kuwaiti air defense forces intercepted hostile aerial targets near the areas of Rumaithiya and Salwa. No injuries were reported, and the situation in the country is stable, according to officials.
Kuwait's Ministry of Health reported that at least one person was killed and 32 others were injured in the country on Sunday. All of the casualties were foreign nationals.
