Samsung Intensifies Crackdown on Leaks Ahead of Galaxy S27 Launch

Samsung is implementing stringent security measures to prevent leaks of its upcoming Galaxy S27 series, marking a significant shift in the company's strategy.

The South Korean tech giant is adopting a multi-layered security approach to combat premature disclosures of specifications and images that have plagued previous launches, diminishing the element of surprise.

According to The Korea Herald, Samsung has initiated a new internal communication protocol called “Secure Chat Mode,” restricting employees from copying, forwarding, or screen-capturing messages within company applications.

These restrictions extend to software systems handling computer-aided design (CAD) files, requiring biometric two-factor authentication for access. Hidden digital watermarks, unique to each user, are embedded in these files, enabling immediate identification of anyone leaking a file and the device used.

Samsung is also focusing on its global supply chain, issuing warnings to component suppliers in China and Vietnam, according to NotebookCheck.

The new measures include mandatory self-inspections for employees on display and camera production lines to prevent prototype leaks. Non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) have been revised with significantly increased financial penalties, potentially bankrupting smaller suppliers if violations occur.

Sensitive components are now shipped in locked boxes that can only be opened with electronic codes upon arrival at the final assembly line.

Tactically, Samsung may employ a “deliberate misinformation” strategy by producing at least three distinctly different external designs for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. This aims to confuse leakers, preventing them from accurately predicting the phone's final appearance until mass production begins, similar to a tactic previously used by Apple.

Despite the stringent measures, the tech world may never be able to keep absolute secrets, and the conflict between corporate security and leakers' curiosity is likely to persist.

Samsung is betting on the S27 series to revolutionize the smartphone market, with rumored features including advanced Polar ID biometric scanning, second-generation 3nm Exynos 2700 processors, and Galaxy AI capabilities integrated into the hardware rather than relying solely on the cloud.

Experts say Samsung faces a dual challenge: protecting its innovations from competitors while reigniting consumer excitement in an era where product details often emerge prematurely.
