Jordan's Producer Price Index Drops Amid Manufacturing Decline

Jordan's producer price index (PPI) experienced a decline, primarily driven by a decrease in manufacturing industries, according to the Department of Statistics.

The overall PPI for Jordanian industrial producers saw a decrease of 0.75% compared to the same period in the previous year. This dip is further reflected in the monthly figures, with a 1.33% decrease recorded for December compared to the same month the previous year, and a 0.81% decrease compared to November.

The index reached 106.32 in contrast to 107.12 recorded during the same timeframe of the previous year. The monthly index for December stood at 104.85, down from 106.26 during the corresponding month. Furthermore, the index decreased from 105.71 recorded in November.

A comparison of the cumulative index reveals a 1.03% decrease in prices within transformative industries, which hold a relative importance of 88.74%. Meanwhile, extractive industries saw a 2.38% increase in prices, accounting for a relative importance of 5.36%. The price of electricity also increased by 0.56%, holding a relative importance of 5.91%.

The decrease in the overall index for December, compared to the same month of the previous year, was influenced by a 1.77% decrease in transformative industries, which constitute 88.74% of the index. Conversely, extractive industries experienced a 4.42% increase, holding a relative importance of 5.36%, while electricity prices increased by 0.27%, with a relative importance of 5.91%.

The monthly decline in the overall PPI for December, compared to the preceding month, resulted from decreases in transformative industries by 0.71% (relative importance of 88.74%) and extractive industries by 3.74% (relative importance of 5.36%). However, electricity prices increased by 0.36%, holding a relative importance of 5.91%.
