Girona delivered a stunning 2-1 comeback victory against Barcelona on Monday, snatching the La Liga lead from the defending champions and handing it to Real Madrid.

The match saw Girona's Fran Beltran score in the 87th minute, igniting wild celebrations among the home crowd. His decisive strike secured the three points after a hard-fought battle.

Barcelona's Pau Cubarsi had earlier put the visitors ahead in the 59th minute with a header from a Jules Kounde cross. However, Girona responded swiftly, with Thomas Lemar leveling the score just three minutes later, capitalizing on a low cross from Vladyslav Vanat.

Barcelona pushed intensely for an equalizer but their efforts were thwarted, even after Joel Roca's late dismissal for a harsh tackle on Lamine Yamal.

The first half saw Barcelona twice strike the woodwork. Raphinha's shot rattled the frame, and Lamine Yamal's penalty struck the left post in stoppage time after Dani Olmo was fouled.

Barcelona's defeat leaves them with 58 points, two behind Real Madrid. Girona now sit in 12th place with 29 points.
