The United Nations has called for maximum restraint as tensions escalate between Israel and Hezbollah along the Lebanese border.

The plea from the UN comes amid growing concerns over exchanges of fire across the Blue Line, the demarcation line established by the UN in June 2000 to verify Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon.

According to a UN spokesperson, the situation on the ground is rapidly evolving, with the UN closely monitoring developments.

The UN is aware of strikes targeting Israel claimed by Hezbollah, as well as reported Israeli strikes resulting in casualties north of the Blue Line in Lebanon.

The UN is urging all parties to adhere to the cessation of hostilities agreement to prevent further escalation. The Blue Line is not an internationally recognized border but serves to confirm the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon.
