Mhidat: Canned tuna products traded in the Kingdom are safe

Director General of the State Foundation for Food and
Medicine Prof. Nizar Mahmoud Mhidat confirmed that all canned tuna products
traded in the Kingdom are safe according to the requirements of technical rule
No. 1103 In conformity with the Food Constitution Authority's Standard No. 193
for the screening of contaminants in food, including mercury.
Mhidat added that all imported and local food products,
including fish and its products, including canned tuna products, are subject to
health requirements and technical rules derived from the World Food
Constitution Authority. He pointed out that canned tuna products traded in the
Kingdom are produced from healthy tuna fish species that conform to the
technical rule and are packaged in sealed containers and treated thermally
enough to ensure their suitability for consumption, as confirmed by laboratory
tests that these products undergo in the Foundation's laboratories by qualified
technicians using the latest and most accurate laboratory devices.
In addition, in order to emphasize the safety and quality of
food products and their conformity with technical rules, Mhidat pointed out
that the Foundation implements periodic monitoring programs throughout the
year, including the examination of random samples of canned tuna products
traded in local markets.
The Foundation is constantly keen to follow up the results
of various scientific reports, studies and research related to food safety,
whose results and recommendations are taken into account and discussed by its
technical committee specialized in scientific research.
