Gulf States Condemn Iran's Attacks in UN Letter

Gulf states have strongly condemned Iran's attacks targeting member nations and Jordan, lodging a formal complaint with the United Nations.

In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states denounced the assaults as a blatant violation of national sovereignty and a breach of international law.

The letter, conveyed by Bahrain's permanent mission to the UN in New York on behalf of the GCC, urgently highlighted the gravity of the Iranian missile strikes.

The GCC states expressed unwavering solidarity with the affected nations, emphasizing that the security of the Gulf region is indivisible. Any infringement upon the sovereignty of one member is considered an attack on the stability of the entire region.

The letter warned of severe repercussions should such escalations continue.

The GCC underscored its inherent right to self-defense, as enshrined in Article 51 of the UN Charter, in response to these overt acts of aggression. The council affirmed its entitlement to undertake proportionate measures, in accordance with international law, to safeguard its territories, populations, and residents, while preserving its sovereignty, security, and stability.
