Israeli Strikes Target Beirut's Southern Suburbs Amid Heightened Tensions

Israeli forces conducted airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs, a stronghold of Hezbollah, amid intense aerial activity over the Lebanese capital, sources have reported.

The Israeli military issued a brief statement early Tuesday, confirming the commencement of operations targeting Hezbollah infrastructure, including headquarters and weapons depots, within Beirut.

Furthermore, the Israeli military announced the targeted killing of Adham Adnan Othman, a commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, during the Beirut operation.

These actions follow Lebanon's declaration on Monday of an immediate ban on Hezbollah's security and military activities, a decision met with condemnation from the group. Israel's strikes are reportedly a response to Hezbollah's launch of rockets and drones towards Israel, allegedly in retaliation for the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Israel has vowed to make Hezbollah pay a heavy price for its actions. The strikes, which have impacted the southern Beirut suburbs, a financial institution affiliated with the group, and various towns and villages in southern and eastern Lebanon, have resulted in at least 52 fatalities and numerous injuries.
