Jordan and UN Discuss Gaza, West Bank Tensions, Humanitarian Aid

Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister Ayman Safadi and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres have conferred on regional stability, with a focus on the Israel-Palestine conflict and humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza.

During a phone call, Safadi and Guterres addressed means of bolstering cooperation between Jordan, the UN, and its affiliated organizations. Discussions centered on humanitarian efforts aimed at delivering assistance to Gaza and supporting refugees.

Both parties emphasized the necessity of adhering to the ceasefire agreement and implementing its provisions fully to ensure a lasting peace.

Safadi and Guterres stressed the importance of combining efforts to ensure sufficient and sustainable aid access to the Gaza Strip without impediments, linking stability to a clear political horizon aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution.

Safadi cautioned against Israel's actions undermining prospects for peace by diminishing the viability of a two-state solution.

The two leaders addressed what Safadi described as Israel's illegal measures in the occupied West Bank, designed to annex occupied Palestinian territory. He warned of the danger posed by recent Israeli government decisions aimed at annexing the West Bank by seizing land under the guise of "state land" and imposing its authority on building permits and demolitions in areas administratively controlled by the Palestinian National Authority. Safadi asserted these decisions constitute violations of international law requiring international action.

Safadi and Guterres also underscored the importance of aligning regional and international efforts to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), ensuring it has the necessary support to continue providing vital services to Palestinian refugees.

Safadi expressed appreciation for the humanitarian role played by UN organizations and their key role in delivering aid to Gaza and meeting the needs of refugees.
