Jordan Launches New Apparel Production Unit in Ma'an, Creating Jobs

MA'AN, Jordan - A new apparel production unit has been launched in the Al-Husainiyah district of Ma'an Governorate, Jordan, aiming to create 100 jobs for local Jordanians. The Ministry of Labour signed an agreement to establish the facility, which will specialize in manufacturing professional clothing and traditional Arab robes.

The agreement was formalized at the Ministry of Labour, with Minister Khaled Al-Bakkar and company General Manager Mohammad Adwan signing the accord. Senior ministry officials were also present.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to expand production units across Jordan, bringing the total to 37 and providing employment for approximately 10,000 Jordanians.

Al-Bakkar stated the establishment of these production units is a royal initiative implemented by the ministry since 2008, providing operational support to investors through the Vocational and Technical Education and Training Support Fund. The support includes covering 50% of the minimum wage for each worker, allocating 25 dinars for transportation, and contributing 25 dinars monthly towards social security subscriptions.

The minister emphasized the importance of the private sector as a key partner in establishing and expanding production units, with the government working to enable the sector to provide more job opportunities for Jordanian youth.

The initiative aims to localize development in rural and remote areas, as well as refugee camps, within the various districts and governorates of Jordan. It also seeks to empower young Jordanians to find employment opportunities near their places of residence.

Since the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Labour has signed three operating agreements for production units in Bal'ama, Rehab in Mafraq Governorate, and Al-Husainiyah in Ma'an Governorate, with plans to establish another branch in Bani Kinana in Irbid Governorate. All these initiatives are part of the royal initiative for production units.
