The European Council's President has welcomed the Lebanese government's decision to end Hezbollah's military activities and demand accountability for those who fired on Israel.
Following discussions with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, European Council President Antonio Costa stated on social media that it is now crucial for Israel and Lebanon to resume security coordination.
Costa emphasized that this coordination would enable the Lebanese Armed Forces to disarm Hezbollah and ensure the safety of all Lebanese citizens.
Lebanon has unequivocally rejected any military or security actions originating from its territory outside the framework of its legitimate institutions, according to Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
During a Lebanese cabinet meeting, Salam asserted that the decision of war and peace rests solely with the state. This necessitates an immediate ban on all of Hezbollah's security and military activities, deeming them illegal.
Salam further stated that Hezbollah must surrender its weapons to the Lebanese state and confine its operations to the political sphere within constitutional and legal frameworks. This would solidify the state's exclusive control over arms and enhance its complete sovereignty over its territory.
Salam has called on all military and security agencies to take immediate measures to prevent any military operations, rocket launches, or drone flights from Lebanese territory. He also demanded the arrest of violators in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
