Jordan Reviews Traffic Violations, Trucking Sector Challenges

Jordan's Minister of Transport, Nidal Qatamine, has emphasized the importance of reviewing traffic violation procedures for all types of transport vehicles to ensure fairness and uphold the law, while also protecting the interests and sustainability of compliant operators.

During a meeting held at the Ministry headquarters, Qatamine stated that addressing traffic violations is a regulatory priority aimed at improving traffic discipline and developing more efficient and equitable mechanisms for handling offenses.

The meeting, which included Ayman al-Baddadwa, head of the parliamentary Services and Transport Committee, also addressed the challenges facing the trucking sector due to regional conditions and fluctuations in trade and supply chains.

Participants agreed on practical steps to develop the trucking sector, improve safety and operational efficiency standards, and promote digital transformation in procedures to reduce operating costs, improve service levels, and enhance the competitiveness of Jordanian land transport in neighboring markets.

Qatamine affirmed that the ministry is coordinating with relevant authorities to study the necessary legal frameworks to ensure clear procedures and enhance trust among all parties.

Al-Baddadwa stressed the need for a balanced legislative approach that considers public safety and protects operators in the sector, emphasizing the importance of developing the legislative and regulatory system to address existing challenges and reduce the negative effects of accumulated violations.

The meeting also included Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport, Fares Abu Dea; Director-General of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission, Riad Al-Kharabsheh; Assistant Director of Public Security for Traffic, Brigadier General Muhannad Al-Batayneh; and the head of the Truck Owners Syndicate, Muhammad Khair Al-Daoud, along with his deputy, Ibrahim Al-Ghazawi, and relevant staff from the ministry and the commission.

Qatamine added that the ministry will work in coordination with the syndicate and relevant parties to develop an executive plan with specific timeframes to ensure a gradual transition towards a more organized, efficient, and competitive sector.

He highlighted that developing the trucking sector is a national priority due to its pivotal role in supporting supply chains and trade, noting that the current stage requires a genuine partnership between the public and private sectors to cope with regional changes and transform existing challenges into opportunities that enhance Jordan's position as a regional logistics hub.
