Leading Iraqi political figures were reportedly informed of the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The news reached key figures, including Shia leaders and Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in Najaf, prior to any official announcement, the sources indicated. Some Shia party leaders were said to have made numerous calls, anxiously seeking information on the potential repercussions.

Murtada al-Sadr, leader of the Sadrist movement, also received a private briefing regarding attempts to locate Khamenei's body, after which the news was confirmed to him.

Later, leaders within the Coordination Framework, such as Ammar al-Hakim and Nouri al-Maliki, were reportedly shown images of Khamenei's body, according to sources.

The Iraqi government and political elite were allegedly ahead of any public confirmation or communication to Iraqi allies from Iranian officials regarding the death.

An image circulated shortly after, purporting that U.S. President Donald Trump had announced Khamenei's death.
