Lebanon has condemned Israeli strikes on its territory and warned against the country becoming a staging ground for proxy wars, following a series of rocket launches.
President Michel Aoun stated that the rocket fire from Lebanese territory undermined efforts to insulate Lebanon from regional conflicts.
“We have called for reason and dealing with it with national responsibility that puts the supreme national interest above all else,” Aoun said, urging restraint.
Aoun denounced the Israeli attacks on Lebanese land, cautioning that continued use of Lebanon as an arena for proxy conflicts would expose it to renewed dangers. He asserted that those disregarding calls to maintain security and stability would bear the responsibility for any resulting consequences, emphasizing that Lebanon would not permit a recurrence of such events.
The Israeli military announced it had launched strikes against Hezbollah targets across Lebanon in response to the rocket launches claimed by the group.
According to an Israeli military statement, the strikes targeted Hezbollah infrastructure throughout Lebanon, initiated as a response to projectiles fired towards Israel.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for launching rockets and drones into Israel, citing retaliation for the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as the motive.
