Israeli strikes on Lebanon resulted in at least 31 fatalities and 149 injuries, according to preliminary figures released by the Lebanese Health Ministry. The strikes targeted several areas within Lebanon.

The escalation follows rocket fire from Hezbollah into Israel, prompting a response that has raised concerns about a wider conflict. The Lebanese government has repeatedly stated its desire to avoid being drawn into regional conflicts.

In response to the attacks, Israeli Chief of Staff General Eyal Zamir anticipated “many days of fighting” with Hezbollah in Lebanon. "We have launched an offensive battle against Hezbollah," Zamir stated in a video released by the Israeli military, emphasizing that the army is "not only on the defensive lines but is launching an attack." He added, "We must prepare for many days of fighting."

The Israeli military reported targeting senior Hezbollah officials in Beirut and southern Lebanon, asserting the action was a response to Hezbollah's launching of projectiles towards Israel. The military stated it had begun “striking targets belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization throughout Lebanon.”

Hezbollah, backed by Iran, issued a statement claiming responsibility for targeting the Israeli military's missile defense site in Mishmar HaCarmel, south of Haifa. The group stated the action was “in defense of Lebanon and its people and in response to repeated Israeli attacks.”

Lebanon's official National News Agency reported that the Israeli strikes targeted multiple areas in Lebanon, including the southern suburbs of Beirut. The agency also reported a “large displacement from the southern suburbs and the south after a series of Israeli raids.”

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the rocket fire, stating on X, “Whoever is behind it, the rocket fire from southern Lebanon is an irresponsible and suspicious act. It endangers the security and safety of Lebanon and gives Israel excuses to continue its attacks on it.” He added, “We will not allow the country to be dragged into new adventures. We will take all necessary measures to arrest the perpetrators and protect the Lebanese.”
