Jordan Braces for Cold Snap, Frost Risk Across Highlands

AMMAN - Jordan is bracing for a spell of cold weather, with potential frost formation in the highlands, the national weather service cautioned.

The public has been advised to take necessary precautions, especially during the night and early morning hours, as temperatures are expected to drop significantly.

The Jordan Meteorological Department warned of reduced horizontal visibility and the risk of slipping due to potential ice formation.

A gradual increase in temperatures is expected on Sunday, but cold conditions will persist in most areas, with milder temperatures in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Clouds will gradually increase at different altitudes during the afternoon. Winds will be northeasterly, turning northwesterly moderate in the afternoon. Generally cold weather is expected at night, with the possibility of frost formation in the early morning over the high mountain peaks.

Monday will see a further slight rise in temperatures, with cold weather in most areas and mild conditions in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea and Aqaba. Clouds are expected at different altitudes. Winds will be northwesterly moderate, occasionally active. The weather will be cold in most areas at night and relatively cold in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea and Aqaba, with the possibility of frost formation over the high mountain peaks in the early morning hours.

Saturday will bring more stable weather, with cold conditions in most areas and mild temperatures in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea and Aqaba. Some low clouds are expected. Winds will be northwesterly, turning northeasterly moderate. Very cold weather is expected at night in most areas, with a continued risk of frost formation in the early morning and late night hours over the high mountain peaks and parts of the Badia region.

Nighttime will bring very cold conditions to most areas and cold weather to the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba, with some low clouds. Winds will be northwesterly moderate, occasionally active in the east of the Kingdom, with frost formation in the late night hours over the high mountain highlands and desert regions.

Earlier, the Kingdom experienced partly cloudy and cold weather in most areas, with a chance of light showers in limited parts of the central and southwestern regions. The weather remained mild in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba.

There was a slight chance of limited, freezing rain over the high southern mountain peaks during the early morning hours. Winds were northwesterly moderate to brisk. Rainfall chances decreased in the afternoon, with gradual weather stabilization.
