BEIRUT - Israeli forces conducted strikes near Beirut on Monday, targeting areas it alleges are used by Hezbollah, escalating tensions in the region.
The strikes followed warnings issued to residents in over 16 villages and towns in southern and eastern Lebanon, advising them to evacuate their homes.
Witnesses reported large plumes of smoke rising from the targeted areas south of Beirut.
Lebanon's state news agency said that there were four Israeli airstrikes.
A reporter stated that Israeli aircraft launched six strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
