AMMAN - Jordan has activated its emergency plan following an interruption of natural gas supplies from Mediterranean fields, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Al-Kharabsheh said.
The shift to alternative energy sources, particularly diesel, will cost the National Electric Power Company approximately 1.8 million Jordanian dinars, according to Al-Kharabsheh.
Al-Kharabsheh stated that the events in the region have led to the disruption of the Kingdom's natural gas supply, which is typically used for electricity generation.
The minister indicated that the approved emergency plan is now in effect, involving a transition to various alternative energy sources, including natural gas supplied via a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), diesel, and heavy fuel oil.
Al-Kharabsheh reassured the public that Jordan possesses sufficient strategic reserves and that there are no technical issues affecting supply operations.
