Egypt is implementing proactive measures to protect its tourism sector from the fallout of regional conflicts, according to the tourism minister.
The strategy focuses on promoting Egypt's diverse tourism offerings, particularly unique products and styles, under the banner "Egypt...Unmatched Diversity," aiming to solidify this slogan in the minds of tourists across international markets.
Minister of Tourism, Sharif Fathi, outlined the ministry's action plan before the Tourism and Aviation Committee of the House of Representatives, emphasizing the promotion of Egypt and strengthening its position on the global tourism map.
Sahar Talaat Mustafa, head of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Committee, underscored the importance of enhancing the tourism sector's readiness to efficiently handle potential developments, ensuring a swift response to changes and maintaining the stability of tourist flows into Egypt.
The ministry is also working to develop existing tourism products and integrate them to create new, comprehensive experiences. Plans are underway to increase the number of hotel rooms to accommodate targeted tourist influxes, with financial initiatives launched to support this expansion. The ministry has received requests totaling approximately 16 billion Egyptian pounds, which will contribute to adding around 160,000 new hotel rooms.
Fathi highlighted the Grand Egyptian Museum, noting its daily visitor rates and coordinated efforts to organize visits and visitor behavior. The museum has experienced significant interest since its opening, averaging around 19,000 visitors per day, with the ministry aiming to attract about 5 million tourists annually.
The minister also reviewed promotional policies for tourism activation and participation in international tourism exhibitions, as well as organizing temporary archaeological exhibitions abroad to promote Egyptian civilization and cultural tourism.
Last year, Egypt's tourism sector experienced a 21% growth, recording approximately 19 million tourists and operating tourist flights from 193 cities worldwide to various Egyptian destinations. Egypt aims to attract 30 million tourists by 2031.
Fathi asserted that "Egypt is a safe and stable country, and the current regional developments and geopolitical events in the region have not affected the incoming tourist movement," emphasizing that the Egyptian destination enjoys unique and secure borders.
