AQABA, Jordan - Operations at the Port of Aqaba are proceeding as normal despite ongoing regional tensions, according to the Aqaba Ports Management and Operation Company.
Mohammad al-Halawi, Director of Operations and Specialized Docks, stated that the port is currently servicing six vessels carrying various goods, including livestock, grains, iron, and timber.
Al-Halawi told Al-Mamlaka TV that the ships are docking according to their scheduled arrival times without delays, and that the unloading of goods is being conducted with the highest safety standards.
He added that more ships carrying livestock, grains, and other commodities are expected to arrive at the port in the coming days.
Al-Halawi explained that the current regional events, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, do not directly impact the Port of Aqaba, as the majority of Jordan's imports originate from Europe, Brazil, and China.
"We have activated emergency plans to deal with current events because the Port of Aqaba is vital and operates 24 hours a day. It could be affected by the current conflict, and some flying objects may fall during this period," he noted.
He also mentioned the existence of a main emergency committee and field teams that are monitoring developments with security authorities.
