Syria Reports Surge in Fuel Demand Amid Regional Tensions

DAMASCUS - Syria's Ministry of Energy reported a significant surge in demand for petroleum products, attributing it to regional developments and heightened anxieties among the population.

Sales of gasoline, diesel, and household gas have jumped by over 300% compared to the daily average, the ministry said, as concerns mount over escalating regional tensions.

The ministry clarified that the increased demand, which led to congestion at some fuel stations, stemmed from public apprehension and rumors, rather than an actual shortage of supplies.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry of Energy asserted that there are no current shortages of petroleum products in the country, emphasizing that supplies of gasoline, diesel, and household gas remain within normal levels.

The ministry further stated that domestic refineries are operating normally and fulfilling their duties. Crude oil import contracts remain in effect through established channels, with refining processes proceeding according to standard operational programs. Operational reserves are being maintained within safe limits.

The ministry affirmed that it is closely monitoring developments and taking proactive measures to ensure the continuity of essential services.

Citizens are urged to rely on official sources for information and to avoid succumbing to rumors that could create unnecessary pressure on the distribution system, the ministry added.
