The Adaptation Fund Board has renewed its accreditation of Jordan’s Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation as a National Implementing Entity (NIE), extending its mandate until February 5th, 2031. The decision followed a comprehensive review of the ministry’s reaccreditation request, with the Fund’s Accreditation Panel recommending the extension in recognition of Jordan’s continued compliance with international standards for managing climate adaptation projects.
The ministry was the first Arab institution to secure NIE status back in 2011. Since then, it has overseen a $9.2m project aimed at strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities to the impacts of climate change—delivering tangible results despite the disruptions of the Covid19 pandemic, global crises, and procurement delays.
The renewed accreditation underscores international confidence in Jordan’s institutional capacity to manage climate finance with transparency and efficiency. It also enhances the kingdom’s ability to access global resources directly in support of its national priorities for adapting to climate change.
