Alanbat - Sara Shqair
Prime Minister Besher al-Khasawneh said on Friday that the
government has a sacred obligation not to approach the independence of central
bank decisions.
During the opening of the "A Year of
Modernization" forum at the King Hussein bin Talal Conference Centre, Al
Khasawneh added that the government has a sacred obligation not to approach the
independence of central bank decisions that maintain the monetary stability of
Jordan, which ultimately serves the citizen, and promote monetary stability and
investment in the country.
He explained that this would be far from populism asking the
government to intervene in the central bank's policies that is based on
scientific rules, saying "The government will not interfere in the central
bank's decisions in any way and will not seek to do so".
He noted that the Government would remain committed to
prudent fiscal policies and structural reform commitments that would not be
popular.
He continued "We are also on track to meet the domestic
revenue growth target this year, and we have a very comfortable foreign
exchange reserve in the central bank."
