Jordan ranked tenth in the Arab world
and 80th in the world in the leading technological readiness index of 2023,
according to the report issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and
Development entitled "Technology and Innovation 2023".
The technological
change launched by renewable and other green technologies opens new windows of
opportunity to resilience-building against threats, develop strong and more
diversified economies, and move to better development paths with less
environmentally burdensome economies.
The report examines
17 of these "leading technologies" – including artificial
intelligence (AI) to turn green hydrogen into biofuels, highlights potential
economic benefits, and assesses countries' capabilities to use, adopt and adapt
these innovations.
The report included the Leading Technology Readiness Index
2023, where 166 countries were ranked as ready to start using leading
technologies with the following five indicators: ICT, skills, industry,
research and development, and finance.
These technologies have seen tremendous growth in the past
two decades. In 2020, the total market capitalization reached $1.5 trillion and
it will be able to reach $9.5 trillion by 2030. The Internet of Things (IoT),
comprising a wide range of devices across multiple sectors have taken over. The
technologies are primarily provided by a few countries, including America,
China, and countries in Western Europe.
