Jordanians spent $350 million on cosmetic surgery and Security staff at the airport: We meet people who are not on the passport
Alanbat - Sarah Omat
Jordan has witnessed a remarkable obsession
with cosmetic procedures in recent years, causing security confusion at
airports due to the failure to match the identity of many female travelers with
their photographs on passports.
The glamour of social
media ads contributes to changing the shape of Jordanians day after day in a
phenomenon that until recently has been the preserve of celebrities, but which,
despite its high cost, has become affordable to all after being overwhelmed by
offers of installments. Informal estimates indicate that the amount of
Jordanians' expenditure on these operations has been close to $350 million in
recent times.
Workers at Queen Alia Airport say the phenomenon has led to
confusion in increasing the dose of security scrutiny at border crossings
longer than usual, particularly towards women, as they stand in front of
security elements to seal their passports, with a significant difference
between their current appearance and the image attached to the passports.
According to British Independent.
According to the Jordanian news website Saraya, social
workers explain why cosmetic procedures are widespread even among small age
groups such as high school students and university students with many factors as
role in influencing their professional and social lives, The desire for a
perfect face or body or a graceful texture with a sense of confidence and
satisfaction. But the most prominent factor is trying to mimic celebrities and
influence them and their appearance on social media. As well as the abundance
of medical centers offering cosmetic services and the variety of cost and
techniques used, Jordan has become a preferred destination for therapeutic
tourism and one of the main destinations in the Middle East for cosmetic
operations.
Despite Jordanian citizens' difficult economic conditions
and increasing unemployment and poverty, cosmetic clinics are witnessing a high
turnout, especially facial, nasal and lip operations, and the removal of
wrinkles and liposuction at a cost of $ 5 to $10,000.
According to the latest statistics, the "Jordan Chamber
of Industry" states that the total annual consumption of cosmetics in
Jordan is approximately $400 million.
