Alanbat - Sara Shqair
A delegation from the Jordanian government chaired by the
finance minister dr. Muhammad Al Isis met with US Treasury Secretary Janet
Yellen on Tuesday in Washington.
The delegation included the minister of planning and
international cooperation Zeina Toukan, the Jordanian central bank governor
Adel Sharkas, and the secretary general of the finance ministry Dr.Abdul Hakim
Al Shibli.
During the meeting, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen
congratulated Jordan on its fiscal policies’ success. She also stressed the
importance of continuing financial reform policies in the same space.
The US Treasury issued the following official statement:
"It is a pleasure to welcome here to the US treasury the
financial minister Al Isis, the minister of planning and international
cooperation Zeina Toukan, the central bank governor Sharkas, and the ambassador
Kawa’ar.
Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II
and the late King Al Hussein, has always been a close friend and ally of the
United States for many years. During his meeting with King Abdullah II
recently, President Biden affirmed the United States’ firm support of Jordan as
an ally and a force for peace in the region.
The U.S. Treasury has a close partnership with Jordan, and I
look forward to discussing the developments with the visiting Jordanian
economic team.
Jordan has been affected as the rest of the world by the
recent worldwide unrest, including the global shocks such as climate change and
the food security crisis caused by the Russian war in Ukraine. The Jordanian
government has taken strong steps and measures to address the Jordanian
challenges and to put Jordan along the way to inclusive growth rapidly and
safely.
I would pay a special tribute to Jordan on its recent
completion of the sixth review of its program with the International Monetary
Fund, which took place smoothly and expeditiously, based on a group of
important reform measures implemented by Jordan.
At this meeting, I would like to speak with the Jordanian
delegation to discuss their plans to move Jordan forward .”
