UNIFIL Renews Call to Refrain from Provocative Actions in Southern Lebanon

The UNIFIL Command
operating in southern Lebanon called on all parties, especially at this
sensitive time, to refrain from any actions that could be considered
provocative and could lead to an escalation of the situation.
This followed tension on
Friday evening in the Lebanese border area of Kafr Kila between Lebanese
demonstrators and the Zionist army, which threw several smoke bombs at
demonstrators, one of whom was hit in the head, a Lebanese security source told
Petra's correspondent in Beirut.
According to a UNIFIL statement
issued on Friday, "tension occurred near the Sheikh Abbad shrine near Kafr
Kila, UNIFIL peacekeepers noticed a crowd of 50 or 60 personnel throwing stones
and placing a Hezbollah flag on the technical fence, and the Zionist army
responded by firing sound and smoke bombs, and the Lebanese army soon arrived
and worked with peacekeepers to calm the situation that is now stable.
"We strongly urge
everyone, especially at this sensitive time, to refrain from any actions that could
be considered provocative and could lead to an escalation of the
situation," the UNIFIL statement concluded.
