The Ministry of Industry and Commerce achieve important achievements to protect the national product

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply has made important achievements locally and abroad, in terms of the measures taken to protect the national product through the implementation of the World Trade Organization agreements related to preventive measures, anti-dumping and anti-subsidy.

The director of the National Protection Directorate at the ministry, Engineer Maysoon Abu Bakr, said that the ministry was able to exempt Jordanian textile industries from the anti-dumping fees imposed by Morocco on its imports of these industries from other countries.  This is within the framework of the investigative case that was conducted regarding flooding the Moroccan market with carpets from several origins.

She added that the ministry dealt last year with 21 complaints regarding the increase in imports, and responded to 7 consultations for the national industry regarding the increase in imports and legislation to protect national production, noting that the necessary measures were taken to defend Jordanian exports in 3 anti-dumping cases directed against Jordanian exports.  The ministry has studied about 300 applications for the issuance of import licenses to regulate the import of aluminum profiles.

In the field of communication with factory owners, approximately (38,000) short awareness messages were sent to factory owners to promote the ministry's services and legislation.

Through the Directorate for the Protection of National Production, the Ministry follows up on Jordan's international WTO commitments and international notifications of trade processing agreements (prevention measures, anti-dumping and support).

The Ministry is working to implement these agreements through Jordanian laws and legislation in such a way as to provide protection and assistance to local industry and producers who suffer harm as a result of harmful or unfair business practices, such as increasing imports of a particular product into Jordan or importing it at dumped or subsidized prices.
